The work at AMPM

Service and maintenance on addressable and conventional systems: the planned visits, the call-outs, the remedials that follow. Commissioning on new installs and upgrades. Fault-finding that gets to the cause, not the symptom.

Sites are mixed: managed residential blocks, offices, schools, industrial units, care settings. You will see plant rooms, panel internals and cause-and-effect matrices, not just a test key and a clipboard.

Paperwork is digital and done on the day. Certificates, asset registers and the golden thread are part of the job, because the building owner is accountable and so are we.

Kit, systems, standards

  • Advanced, Kentec, Gent, Notifier, Morley and C-Tec panels
  • BS 5839-1 (commercial) and BS 5839-6 (domestic) systems
  • Aspirating detection, interfaces to suppression, smoke control and access
  • Networked and graphics-based systems on larger estates

Tickets we look for

  • FIA units (or equivalent manufacturer training) and time served on systems
  • Clean driving licence; ECS/CSCS useful; IPAF and asbestos awareness we can sort
  • Multi-discipline fire and security backgrounds are welcome

Pay

Asking salaries we are seeing in the market this month for fire alarm engineers in the South East: around £38k to £40k with 10+ years in, £28k to £32k at two to three years. Our bands sit with the market and are published on every role. The full picture is in the salary guide.

Where you join the ladder

Apprentice → Mentor → Practitioner → Master. Time-served engineers join as Practitioners; senior service and commissioning engineers as Masters, with Mentor responsibility for apprentices on the patch. The Academy certifies where you already sit; nobody restarts at the bottom.

And the bit no competitor can say: the AMPM Group is employee-owned. Stay, and you own part of it. How ownership works →

Where

Rounds and projects across London, Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire and Essex. We try to keep the patch sensible: a Sussex engineer should not be living on the M25.
